Pakistan is a country of almost 200 million people with an area of 796,095 Square kilometers. It is blessed with a plenty of natural and human resources, such as energy (wind, solar, hydropower), agriculture (irrigation network, fertile land), water (rivers, canal, mountains, and forests), livestock and minerals. Added to it, youth constitute almost 45% of its total population which is quite unusual in the world.
This notwithstanding, according to UNDP report 2016, Pakistan’s 45.6 percent population lives below the poverty line. It further reveals that 14.9 percent of its population is near to multidimensional poverty index. The report ranks the country 146 out of 187 countries so far as the Human Development Index (HDI) is concerned.
Average indicators in other key sectors also paint a quite dismal picture. For instance, environment indicators show that average annual deforestation in the country is 2.24%. The internal renewable freshwater resources are 311 per capita cubic. About 52 percent population, according to WDI, has no access to improved sanitation facilities. Moreover, according to a report published by the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Children and titled “The State of Pakistan’s Children 2012”, Pakistan is ranked 2nd in the countries with 25 million out of school children. In health sector, the country is ranked 122 out of 190 countries.
The situation asks for undertaking all out efforts to turn things around. We believes that sustainable development gate can only be opened with the key of effective participation of community on self-help and self-reliant basis. Any attempt violating this principal can have short terms gains but it will never be able to bring about a lasting and penetrative change in the society
Keeping this in the viewpoint, the organization has an integrated programme of comprehensive Community Development Programme for rural areas of Pakistan. The integrated programme aims “to bring significant change in the life of rural communities of Pakistan through maximum participation for improving education, creating opportunities of economic growth and eliminating root causes of public health issues”, and is divided into three stages (1) Foundation Building stage, (2) Spiritual Enlightenment Stage; and (3) Self-help development stage.
